Mellon Delighted With Accrington Showing

A solid four nil victory over Accrington Stanley last night ticked all the boxes for manager Micky Mellon.

We hosted James Beattie's boys and a very comprehensive performance saw us go into the half time break with a commanding three nil lead against the side who were already down to ten men following the dismissal of their keeper.

The second half was a steady affair and we added another goal to our tally as they did their best to lock us out by digging in and defending deep.

Speaking to the Official Site Mellon explained it both the performance and the result that pleased him and getting our first penalty in 16 months wasn't too shabby either.

'We are obviously delighted to win another game at home and to win the way that we did was very pleasing. It's always a tough fixture when you come up against Accrington as they are always competitive and full of spirit so for us to pick up three points, score some goals and keep a clean sheet is very pleasing.'

Andy Mangan opened the scoring for us, before grabbing his brace in the second half when he hit our fourth goal and that's now three goals in two games for him, and Mellon couldn't have been more pleased with the start he's had to the season.

'I knew when I brought him here it gives us something different up front with that pace and movement and he will score you goals. He will be delighted like we all are to get this result.'

Mellon just adds the only tinge of disappointment was that he couldn't quite grab the hattrick, but he's sure that he'll get that in time.

As for the penalty that finally went our way, Mellon joked that we didn't have a penalty taker at the club because we didn't get them.

'I wasn't sure if anybody in the stadium knew what was going on as we haven't seen one for so long. The players decide it on the pitch and if they are confident enough they'll pick up the ball and I'm happy for Jean-Louis that he's struck it into the back of the net.'
