Woods - It Was A Decent Showing

Midfielder Ryan Woods has said that he feels Shrewsbury can be pretty pleased with the showing we put in against West Bromwich Albion in our last friendly.

Town were beaten two nil by the Premier League side, but with Micky Mellon talking about the positives that he could take from the game in terms of how we performed and the spirit we showed to try and get back on level terms again, Woods agreed with the gaffer that hopefully - with further improvement expected in the coming weeks - that it could be a good sign of things to come for Shrewsbury this season.

Speaking to the Official Site following the game, Woods explained.

It's nice that West Brom came to give us a game. I think we showed a really good account of ourselves. In the season we're going to be looking to make other teams work hard without the ball, but it was good for our fitness in pre season this game and we always expected them to have a lot of the ball. That said, we gave it a really good go, and there wasn't much different between the teams.'

Of course moving forward and with so many new additions to the side since our new gaffer came in, Woods has talked about his own future at the club and how he hopes to play a big part in the plans for this coming season because he's hoping there are good things ahead of us.

'I think we're going to have a very good team here this year which will play some attractive football. We want to keep pushing on now and see where it takes us. It's a big season for me. I'm going to be looking to play as much as I can but that's down to me, and I've got to make sure the gaffer picks me as much as he can.'
