Cameron Gayle Signs Two Year Deal

Cameron Gayle yesterday signed a two year deal at the Greenhous Meadow becoming new manager Micky Mellon's latest signing of the summer.

The former West Bromwich Albion defender knows the club well having had loan spells with us in each of the last two seasons, and the 21 year old is the perfect cover for Mellon defensively given he can operate across any of the back four positions.

Having joined pre season training as a trialist a few weeks back, Mellon has been sufficiently impressed with his efforts and obviously what he's heard from Jacko and having been offered a deal, it has now been signed.

In his two spells with us, predominantly playing at right back, Gayle already has 21 appearances to his Shrewsbury name and he'll be looking to seriously build on that in the coming two years.

Speaking to the Official Site the gaffer said of the player.

'I'm delighted to get Cameron on board, he's a terrific young defender who can cover a number of positions across the back four but especially in both full back positions. He's a terrific athlete who has come from such a good club as West Brom so he has been schooled in the right way and is the type of player we want at the club.'

Mellon goes on to say that having studied footage of last year, he's really pleased with the options he now has within the squad, because unlike last season where we had to shoehorn people into new positions (ala Woody) having people who can naturally play in more than one slot will be a dream when it comes to covering injuries, suspensions, loss of form and even just changing things up during a game to try something different.

'Cameron is the right age, a good footballer, an all round good guy and I'm excited about having another huge potential player in the building.'
