'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Midfielder Lawrence Joins Shrewsbury

Micky Mellon has added midfielder Liam Lawrence to our playing staff today and he becomes the latest new face on the training ground.

Mellong and Lawrence worked together in their time at Barnsley, and the gaffer believes he is the perfect leader and organiser to have on board at the club now and he believes he'll compliment our new look side perfectly in the coming season.

Speaking to the Official Site as his signing was announced, the manager said.

'Liam is a lad I know very well from my time at Barnsley and from during his career. He's a really good guy and a very talented footballer and definitely the type of player I wanted in the club to do that organising job for me on the pitch. He is a really exciting signing and one that shows people Shrewsbury Town want to have a real good go at making us a good side.'

The 32 year old comes to us having played for a number of clubs, and having played in a number of positions across the park, and his career stats take in excess of 400 matches and he's only 13 goals off scoring 100 times.

He has Premier League experience as a winger through his time with Sunderland and Stoke City, where he made almost 200 appearances at that level, and in recent years he has been in the centre of midfield where Mellon believes his leadership qualities have really come to the fore.

Describing the player again as a good organiser, and saying he's calm on the ball and somebody who makes good decisions regularly.

'Liam is also a good talker and is a leader, brilliant in the dressing room and very much like myself in that the standards need to be very high and what we need to demand out of each other.'
