Mellon Targets Goalkeeper Competition

Mellon Targets Goalkeeper Competition

Manager Micky Mellon has said he now wants to bring in another goalkeeper to challenge Mark Halstead for the number 1 spot.

The 23 year old keeper joined us last week after being released by Blackpool and penned a two year contract and will obviously have hopes of being our number 1 next season after spending most of his career so far as a back up and whilst Mellon appreciates that he told the Official Site that he wants another keeper with some experience to foster some really good competition, especially as we have the promising Callum Burton and Harry Lewis coming through from our youth ranks.

'I want to bring another goalkeeper in. The two young lads we're going to keep developing. I'm fully aware of them, I want them to keep progressing and I want to see how they progress and how quickly they develop.'

Mellon goes on to say that he knows Halstead has probably played second fiddle for longer than he would've wanted to, and he's obviously a goalkeeper with great potential, but in order to reach that potential he knows he has to be pushed at every step.

'We do want to bring in another goalkeeper and let them two battle it out.'
