Shrewsbury Sign Oldham's Wesolowski

Shrewsbury Town have today added League One Oldham Athletic midfielder James Wesolowski to our squad for the coming campaign.

The 26 year old has signed a two year deal with the club, with an option for a third year, and he moves to us as Oldham's captain and Player of the Year for 2013-14.

The Sydney born Australian started his football life in Leicester City's youth set up, and he went through the ranks into their first team in the Championship and made nearly 50 appearances.

Following his five year spell with Leicester, he then moved onto Peterborough and then Oldham, where he has spent the last three years.

In his career so far he has made 217 starting appearances, with a further 37 from the bench and has scored 17 times.

Speaking to the Official Site the player explained.

'It was a very tough decision to leave Oldham and I have really enjoyed my time there. when I went to see Micky Mellon and he spoke of his plans for the future of the club it was exciting. It's a great opportunity for me and a pretty easy decision to make as I'm looking to help Shrewsbury Town get back in League 1.'

Wesolowski admits that given he was a guaranteed starter for them as their captain, that some may view his decision to drop back into League 2 with us as a step down, but as far as he's concerned the plans we have in place here make that move more than acceptable because we are ready to push on.
