Halstead Is Another Addition
Micky Mellon has also added goalkeeper Mark Halstead to our ranks today.
The 23 year old keeper is a product of Blackpool's youth set up.
In his career with them he has made one Premier League appearance and one in the Carling Cup but taking into account loan spells at Barrow, Kettering and Stockport, his career record so far stands at 13 appearances overall I believe.
He was released by Blackpool this season when his contract expired, and apparently talks with Shrewsbury have been ongoing for a while, but earlier this evening the finer details on a two year contract were signed and sealed.
Speaking to the Official Site after penning the deal, Halstead explained.
'At the end of last season Blackpool decided not to keep me on which was a bit of a shock. With Matt Williams coming to Shrewsbury he's put a word in for me with the manager and him, Jacko and Danny Coyne have done a bit of digging on me. It's taken a little time but I'm glad to finally have it all sorted and glad to be at Shrewsbury.'
Halstead goes on to say that having spoken to the management staff at the club, whilst he accepts relegation wasn't 'ideal' for the club last term, he has every confidence that we will be going for promotino this season and he wants to play his part in that.
It also appears the player has his head screwed on as he admits at his age really he should've played a lot more than he has done, and it's about time for him to prove that he's not all potential, he's got substance to him and he knows this is the perfect opportunity for him to prove that.
