Williams Excited By Potential Targets

Williams Excited By Potential Targets

CEO Matt Williams has said that he's been in very regular contact with new manager Micky Mellon and he's excited by the names he's talking about when it comes to rebuilding the club and potential new targets for next season.

Speaking to the Official Site with new deals being offered to players and a list of targets being built up for the new season, Williams explained that he was already in the thick of things even though he doesn't officially begin his new role at the club until May 27th.

'We need a squad which can compete, play the right way, but are also good people. I feel it's important that the players buy into the ethos of Shrewsbury and we'll make sure that they feel a part of the club.'

Williams goes on to say that he doesn't believe the entire squad at the end of the season 'cared about the club' in the end, and that was reflected in performances and our ultimate relegation, so what he wants to do is bolster the team now with players who do care so they can help those that remain.

'I've been relegated before, and it's a hard pill to take because everybody wants to be successful, but we're committed to building a squad which the club can be proud of. My first text off Micky this morning was at ten past seven. I've spoken to him a dozen times today and some of the players we're talking about excite me, which is the main thing.'

Williams adds that Mellon really is a positive and enthusiastic person and he jokes since he was appointed and announced, he feels he's spoken to him more than he's spoken to his wife in recent days.
