Jackson United In Disappointment

Caretaker manager Michael Jackson was left disappointed by our defeat to Sheffield United yesterday as he didn't feel we reached the standards we are capable of, nor lived up to the standards we have set ourselves in terms of a performance since he came in.

Shrewsbury went down two nil on the day and both games came within the opening 20 minutes, and that was the source of most of Jackson's frustration because we gave ourselves such a mountain to climb so early on in the game.

Had we been in better form it wouldn't have been so bad as there were 70 minutes to get back into it, but with the results we've been having two nil down that quick would've hammered confidence again, and it took us a while to get back into the swing of things properly and then we snatched and wasted the chances that did come our way.

Speaking to the Official Site the gaffer said.

'I thought we had a lot of the ball in both the first and second half but we didn't do a lot with it, especially in the final third. I wanted us to play a lot quicker and we've worked all week on moving the ball around but we didn't do that. I'm disappointed, we've had some good chances but we didn't do enough.'

Jackson says that really we just made it too easy for Sheffield United on the day, because we had no penetration and we really didn't make them work in defence, we effectively kept the ball to ourselves and succeeded in time wasting, when it was our own time to waste because we needed to get back into it.

Another disappointment for him on the day was the way we conceded the soft goals, because the way United come at teams was highlighted and worked on during training and he felt it was unfortunate that the players didn't follow what they were told, as bottom line is, they paid for it.

The task now is to pick ourselves up and go again when we face Port Vale, as if we play how we can they of course we can get a result...and we need them.
