Mixed Emotions For Burke

Graham Burke has been left with mixed emotions following the heavy defeat to Oldham.

The on loan Villa youngster scored his first senior goal (and his first goal for Shrewsbury) in the first round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy last night against Oldham on the stroke of half time, but with Shrewsbury losing the game 4-1 it was difficult for the 19 year old to really celebrate that feat.

Speaking to the Official Site following the match, Burke admitted the overriding memory of the game for him will be the heavy defeat as opposed to his first goal.

'I'm happy about scoring the goal, but I'm not too happy with the result. The outcome of the game wasn't the best for us and we're out of the competition - individually it was probably alright, but overall I won't really take anything from it.'

Burke says the defeat is going to stick with the players for a bit, especially with a break in football for a while now, but he hopes that when the players get back to training they can put the game behind them, learn from the mistakes and put them right so we get the right result in the next game.

One thing Burke does hope is that having been an unused substitute in our last few games, that he did enough to impress Graham Turner to keep his starting place in the next game, or at the very least to be more considered to come off the bench so he can add more game minutes under his belt.
