Turner Seething At Inept Oldham Performance

Turner Seething At Inept Oldham Performance

Graham Turner has admitted he was seething following Shrewsbury Town's inept display against Oldham last night.

Town crashed out of the first round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy in the worst possible style with a 4-1 defeat, and Turner clearly was an unhappy man.

Speaking to the Official Site following the game Turner was seriously frustrated by the performance Shrewsbury put in, seeing us go two goals behind so early on in the game before Villa loanee Graham Burke gave us a little hope of getting back into it in the second half.

'We haven't got over the disappointment of the performance and the result. I think generally it was as bad as we've played for a long, long time in that first 30 minutes.'

Turner adds that the main disappointment was that we just never seemed to get out of the blocks, but he takes responsibility as the manager for that, and it's something the team have to learn from because you face sides like Oldham 'at half pace'.

'In that first 30 minutes I thought it was the most inept performance we've put on for a long time.'

The manager did make seven changes for the game, but before the match he had talked about taking the competition seriously and it being a cup we wanted to progress in, so seeing us crash out like that would've been doubly disappointing for him as he had faith that he'd put out a side that would handle Oldham and secure the victory.

Back to the training pitch ahead of the game against Crawley, but at least having a break for just over a week now the game can be fully dissected and he can get the players out on the training pitch to put things right.
