Town Will Field Reserve Team In Central League
Graham Turner has confirmed that Shrewsbury Town will again field a reserve team in the Central League, but he does want to see some changes made for the coming season.
Two seasons ago Turner wasn't convinced of the benefits so instead started choosing the opposition for training ground friendlies, however we returned last season and the second string enjoyed a good campaign so he's signed us up for it again.
However, he isn't entirely happy with some of the rules implemented, and would like to see change.
Speaking to the Official Site he explained.
'I'm not sure whether we've had the AGM yet, but I would have liked to have gone and made representations first of all about clubs playing on the main pitch.'
Turner explains that he would've liked, the youngsters involved, to get the taste for the big stadiums as opposed to training ground matches or non league pitches. Not necessarily all of them because of obvious first team considerations on wear and tear, but there would be a happy medium struck and it might well encourage additional fans to attend reserve level football and take a further interest in that direction.
'Secondly, there's the amount of travel. Where is the sense in young players, in particular, sitting on a coach all the way to Hartlepool when we've got enough teams in this vicinity to play without too much travel?'
