Youth Day Doesn't Get Any Easier
Graham Turner has admitted that Youth decision day never gets any easier for him.
Only one player has been offered a professional deal with Shrewsbury from this year's crop of second year scholars, and Turner let go eight.
Speaking to the Official Site Turner explained.
'It doesn't get any easier, but I think they were aware what the decisions would be. They had a good inkling of how it would go, but it's always difficult and you're almost putting on hold a young man's dream.'
Turner says that those that he let go shouldn't be too disheartened as many players at that age drop into non league football, learn to fight on the pitch for their careers and then slowly start moving back up the league's into the various divisions and have good careers in the game indeed.
As for the player rewarded with a deal, it was Jack Gwilliams.
'Jack's a winger with a lot of pace, ability, good dribbling skills.'
Turner has been told though that the Academy staff feel there are a number he will be taking a serious look at this time next season who might just make it, such as Dom Smith who is already a regular in the reserve setup and has already been invited to train with the first team and hasn't looked out of place.
